Still Puzzled About Where Your Money Went?

Published by literarychica at 3:28 am under Budgeting, credit cards, money, savings Edit This

I must say that in these trying times with costs of gasoline being up to $4-5 dollars per gallon, it is has been easy to watch my money disappear faster than I could have ever imagined. So I am finding that I need to find out where it is going so that I can make some decent cuts so that I can save my money better.

What I did is I opened what I would call is 4×6 savings account. I can see the expression on your face thinking about oh no I would have to go to the bank! Actually not at all and this what you do to do open this account. Take an index card sized 4×6 and label one card the date of the week that you are doing this such, “Week of June 1st,” and take a pen with you. So whenever that you make a purchase you will write down what you bought and how much. You will do this for every purchase that you make. Any deposits that you receive do write down your take-home amount on the card too.

By the end of the month you will have four cards, that will give you a full record of where all of your money came from and where it all disappeared to as well. This will help you to see if you are exceeding or going over your income, at a balance, or have a positive balance at the end of the month.

This is one of the first baby steps in improving your financial future.

This is a great idea. I’m always wondering where my money went. This way I’d know. I tend to try to use my debit card to keep track of everything though.

It’s the little stuff that bankrupts you! You remember spending $30 at the grocery store, you don’t remember all the stuff under $5! This is a good tip to keep track of those nickel and dime moments!
