Five Ways to Keep Cool and Save Money This Summer

I have been using these ways for the last few years and I have found that I have not had to turn on the air conditioner so much in the summer. I also found that I did not need to keep the air conditioner on all day and night. Here are some surefire ways to keep cool this summer.

  1. Open the windows in the early mornings as it is usually cooler before the sun comes up. This will allow for cool air to come into the home, and stay in your home too. When it starts to get warm outside due to the sun rising and shining away, then you need to close the windows. This will keep that nice and fresh cool air in your home.

  2. Do your laundry in the evening times as this not only helps you to save on energy but will also keep your home cool. The dryer gives off heat which will increase the warmth inside the home.

  3. Turn off appliances that you can do without for a few hours such as the computer or the television. I have two computers at my home, however, instead of having both of them on, I only keep one computer on. If you are not really watching the TV then turn it off and turn on the radio instead if you are needing the background noise.

  4. Increase your thermostat by a few degrees if you have a central air conditioner as this will help with saving money on your electricity bill by giving you a savings of about 10%

  5. Attempt to avoid running your air conditioner when you are not home. This is the fastest way to double your electricity bills.

Luckily for me I get almost no sunlight in my house in the summer. The one room that does get sun, gets very hot. Lightwight, light colored curtains can help keep a sunny room cool as well.

Living in Arizona like I do, it is so important to find ways to keep cool in the summer months, especially when it can hit 100 before 11 in the morning, like it might today!
