Here are more ways that I have found to be very useful as I try to save money and keep cool in the summer. I have noticed that since I have made these minor savings adjustments to my pocketbook for the last several years it has caused a large impact on my finances in a positive route. I love having extra money to take care of my bills and other important needs.

  1. Shut the blinders. I would say that in many cases doing this has helped out in some ways including hiding from door to door salespeople but also saving on energy costs. When the sunlight hits the windows it causes them to heat up the home. I usually have a few blinds slightly open, as the sun is not hitting directly on the window.
  2. Wait to cook until the early mornings or until the late evenings as all of the extra heat causes the house to heat up quickly. Even with running the air conditioner at the same time, it will not help the situation either.
  3. Close used vents in parts of your home that is not used very often. I have a guest bedroom that I do not use very often and I close the blinds along with the vents. I have noticed that I receive better air flow into the other rooms of the house. If you have a basement, then it would be best to leave the vent open but possibly close it halfway as this will keep a good mix of cool air in the room preventing humidity.
