On July 1st, in the states of California and Washington, residents are required to use hands-free phone headsets and not be holding cell phones while they are driving.   Although I do believe that it will help with some of the safety problems however the concentration levels of people while talking on the phone and driving are compromised as they are focused on their conversation more than paying attention to the road. According to California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, as quoted in the Los Angeles Times, “Getting people’s hands off their phones and onto their steering wheels will save lives and make California’s roads safer.”  Keeping both hands on the wheel to avoid from receiving a traffic tickets then can run from $20, and reoccurring tickets to $50 and more.  So do ensure that you get a hands-free headset or Bluetooth headset to help make sure that you do not receive any traffic tickets.

I would encourage you to learn how to use your headset properly and make sure that it is adjusted well so that it will not fall while you are using it in your vehicle.   I still cannot help but wonder what people would do if we did not have cell phones? I would prefer to see a law again text messaging while driving.
