Why Are You in Debt?–Part III
I found the root of my issue with money and I go through an amazing feeling power and to want to spend it like crazy buying whatever it is that I desired. Now there is nothing wrong with shopping but spending everything that you have, and you do have cash to purchase your basic needs of food is a bad thing. Wouldn’t you agree?
I felt completely inadequate about money for many years and I could not understand why many of the techniques that I learned from others would not work. I have a condition called Bipolar disorder which causes manic episodes of impulsive or self-destructive behavior when it comes to money. This illness has ruined me financially however I am slowly I am getting better at things financially.
I was diagnosed about two years ago, and I was able to work through learning how to cope with this illness through a different way. I have had money problems for over 10 years, and have managed to run up tens of thousands dollars of debt. Although I have a majority of that paid off. With proper medication, treatments, and coping skills I do know how to cope better.
I may have enough money to buy something such as get my hair done or go to a concert, I learned to set limits for myself, and allowances. If I do not spend all of my allowance that I have allocated for myself then I when it came to getting another allowance, I would put the excess back into my checking account. I do not allow the amount in my checking account to get lower than a particular number and I am not talking about the number zero. I feel less stress and more at ease about my finances and I get so excited when I am able to save money on items that I purchase. I pay in cash mainly for the smaller items that I purchase, and for larger items I use my debit card. I have canceled all of my credit cards, and it feels great.
How do you cope with debt? How do you feel when things are more under control such as what I have been experiencing? I look forward to hearing your comments. I do ask if you are leaving a comment to make sure it is a meaningful comment, and not to just show off the links to your blog site. Thank you.
